Pala Reservation Residents – PREP is Here
The Pala Reservation Emergency Preparedness project, or PREP for short, has officially launched to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and natural hazards within our community. With a comprehensive approach, PREP aims to engage residents in a collaborative effort to identify, address, and mitigate potential hazards.
PREP’s strategy encompasses a series of neighborhood visits, where residents will actively participate in mapping out hazardous areas, establishing evacuation routes, and identifying vulnerable members of the community. By tailoring strategies to the unique needs of each neighborhood, PREP seeks to fortify the resilience of residents, homes, and communities against the impacts of climate-related events.
How You Can Contribute: Complete the PREP Neighborhood Survey
You can play a crucial role in shaping the direction of PREP by participating in the PREP Neighborhood Survey. Your insights will help the PREP leadership team design effective educational materials and community meetings. The survey link is provided below (click on the screenshot), and for those preferring a hard copy, surveys are available at the Administration Building lobby.
A Commitment to Community Resilience
The Pala Band of Mission Indians has identified public awareness, education, and preparedness in addressing the threats posed by climate change and natural disasters. The PREP project underscores the tribe’s commitment to enhancing its capacity and resilience in the face of hazards such as extreme heat, flash floods, wildfires, and earthquakes.
Under the leadership of Shasta Gaughen, Director of the Pala Environmental Department, PREP is supported by Tina Fernandez, Environmental Educator, Stephanie Staley, Administrative Assistant, Matthew Deveney, GIS Specialist, and David Bernie, Pala’s media manager, alongside a dedicated consulting team.
Join Us in Building a Safer Future
Your participation in the PREP Neighborhood Survey is invaluable. By sharing your concerns, needs, and ideas, you contribute to a collective effort aimed at safeguarding our community against the impacts of climate change and natural hazards.
